Miller Lite, a light beer, was developed in 1967 by Joseph L. Owades, a biochemist working for New York’s Rheingold Brewery. Miller Lite was introduced as the first mainstream light beer named ‘Lite’ in 1975 in the US. Lite was launched as a category of beer for weight conscious drinkers and led more than half of all low calorie beer sales during the 1980s. Miller Brewing invested heavily in advertising the Lite brand. It ran a successful advertising campaign with the theme “Tastes Great, Less Filling” in 1974.... |
